Your Social Committee hosted its first event on Thursday, June 10th – a pool party! 35 members splashed and dined together and had a chance to enjoy the Florida heat instead of having to run in it! Members enjoyed appetizers including antipasto and roll ups, entrees like spaghetti, stuffed shells and baked ziti, and desserts such as brownies and fruit. Swimmers chatted and swam while others floated their drinks on rafts. And everyone got the chance to see ultra-runner Valerie Miller swim in her amazing mermaid outfit!
The TVRC Social Committee is chaired by Lisa Johnson. Other members include: Terri Bower, Gail Charrette, Alice Kelly, Mary Lou Marcotte, Valerie Miller and Carol Wolf. Other interested people are welcome to join the committee or just volunteer for an activity they are excited to participate in.
Social Committee events on the horizon include a restarting of Home Runs which will be organized by Terri Bower. Terri will be planning the first Home Run from her house in July and then she will be working with members to plan monthly Home Runs. The goal for the Home Runs is to explore different areas of The Villages and to have a social gathering after the run! Home Runs are typically run on Sundays so longer runs can be scheduled, but they will also include a shorter distance option to be inclusive of all members. If you are interested in hosting a Home Run reach out to Terry via FB messenger.
Social Committee member Carol Wolf is coordinating a speaker for our September 9th membership meeting at 5pm at Colony Cottage Recreation Center. Kari Walker, The Villages Health Population Specialist, will talk to us about Getting a Good Night Sleep! This seminar will follow a brief business meeting and is a topic of interest to so many of us.
Another event in the planning stages is Night Golf. Mary Lou Marcotte is in charge of this event. The group will play at the Saddlebrook Executive Course at approximately 6pm on Thursday, September 16. The start times depend on the onset of dusk, but we will have a pizza party before hitting the links. There is a sign-up sheet circulating so make sure to see Mary Lou or if you are out of town and interested please notify Mary Lou via FB messager. TVRC members and spouses/partners get priority for participating, but since we need 36 individuals to play, we will open it to friends of members if necessary. Further details will be forthcoming as the date of play draws closer.
The Social Committee looks forward to helping us continue to celebrate the joy of running outside of training times!
