Board of Directors

George Whiting: President

I grew up in Manchester, CT which is the home of the internationally recognized Manchester Road Race. Always on my bucket list so in 2010 my son and I ran it with 15,000 other runners.  My legs were burning after the first mile of this 4.737mile race and I doubted my own sanity. After surviving the finish, we decided to do it the following year. I did this run/walk for quite a few years before deciding that a little bit of training might reduce the risk of me expiring at an early age.  In the Fall of 2017 I did my limited training routine and then decided to just keep on running year-round. Since 2019 I have logged in excess of 1000 miles each year and have found that runners are the best people on earth.  Sorry Elks.

My wife Pat and I met in Allentown, PA 22 years ago.  Pat then moved from Ontario (Canada, eh) and we lived many years on the CT shore.  After tiring of cold weather we moved to Wilmington, NC for five years.  Great running community! Then decided to move further south and became Villagers in May 2024.  I have a daughter who resides in CT, and a son who is married with two children living in Guangzhou, China.  It’s great to have grandchildren even if they are 8000 miles away.

My favorite activities in The Villages are running and hanging out drinking coffee with runners. Other than that I enjoy golfing, pickleball, softball, watching the Mets, playing cards with friends, and making travel plans.

Jennifer Letch: Vice President

I was born and raised in Andover, Massachusetts, just north of Boston. After college, I moved to the Netherlands, where I spent my adult years raising 2 children, working and playing. My husband and I traveled often to the Villages to visit my parents and decided ‘why wait for retirement’ to live the active lifestyle we saw here. So, I got a job and made the big move back to the US to settle in the village of Palo Alto in October 2023. My husband will follow when his green card is approved.

I have been running off and on since junior high. I was on the track & cross-country teams and continued sporadically running through my 20’s. Sometime in my 30’s I joined a running club in the Netherlands and started doing some races. I’ve done various distances, but my all-time favorite is the marathon. I hope to run another one someday, with the encouragement of my TVRC friends!

I joined TVRC in the summer of 2024 and knew during my first training with the club that I had found ‘my people’. I’m so impressed and humbled by all the stories I’ve heard from you all. I hope to be able to contribute to the board with the enthusiasm I feel!

Let’s find those Forrest Gump moments together, feeling unstoppable. Run, TVRC, Run!

Sheri Michel: Secretary

I was raised in Montreal and raised my 2 children in Maine. Having spent my entire life in the cold, I knew that I wanted to spend the second half of my life in a warm climate. My husband Kevin and I moved to The Villages in 2021. I started running about 12 years ago to get through a difficult time. I quickly learned that I loved running because it is cheaper than therapy and because I love to eat! At the finish line of my first half marathon, I met a couple who were running their 50th state. I took that as a challenge! This April I will be running my 50th state!

Back home, I always ran on my own but started running with The Villages Run Club a year ago which brought running to a whole new level! Running with like minded people who share the passion for the sport has made me feel like I’ve found my people! This group is encouraging and motivating, they have made me a stronger runner! I look forward to continuing to meet new runners through the club to share stories and experiences! Honored to be part of a club that is so inclusive and welcoming!

Ted Wettstein, Treasurer
I Grew up in Winter Park, Florida and moved all the way up to The Villages in 2022. I’m
a burned-out CPA that sold my practice and started several businesses in Central
Florida. I’m now retired, but keep my hands in the businesses from time to time.
I have always been active and enjoy all types of outdoor activities. Backpacking
assisted me in changing my gait which allowed me to run without knee pain beginning in 2003. Since then, I’ve run 11 marathons including several Boston Marathons. After I moved to The Villages, I met up with the Villages Running Club and was immediately impressed with the friendliness, the variety of runners, and the speed of some of the runners in the Club. It is with pleasure that I serve as the Club’s Treasurer.

Maura Sullivan: Member At-Large

I’m a native of the Boston, Massachusetts area and moved to The Villages in April 2026. I’ve been running consistently for many years and have completed numerous races, including marathons such as Boston, Baystate, Beantown, and the Flying Pig. I’m a long-time member of the L Street Running Club, which is based in South Boston. I’m an avid sports fan and supporter of the Boston professional teams.

I joined TVRC right after moving to The Villages and have been regularly participating in group runs. Through the runs, I’ve met lots of great friends who have been welcoming and supportive. In addition to running, I golf, lap swim and spend time with my Golden Doodle, Maisie. I plan to get involved in other activities, too, such as beach tennis, pickleball and water volleyball.
