September Monthly Membership Meeting

9/10/2021 Meeting Minutes

  • 17 Members attending this month’s meeting, held at the picnic tables at Colony Rec Center.
  • Lizann was out of town for this meeting, so the meeting was run by Trish and John.
  • Trish reviewed expense from the last month, which included the purchase of the TVRC canopy, TVRC flags, fees for Night Golf, miscellaneous food expenses, and a wireless microphone PA system.
  • A question came up regarding our TVRC business cards.  Several members would like to have access to some cards to give to potential new members.  Lisa currently has all of our cards, so anyone that would like some cards should get them from Lisa.
  • Carol Wolf discussed our plans for participating in the annual Holiday Charity Drive.  We will donate Pajamas and Books for children ages 0-18, in support of the homeless population within the Tri County area.  Last year TVRC donated over 100 items.  Pajamas and Books must be new and unwrapped.  Carol and Steve will collect items during each of our runs in November, or items may be dropped off at any of the 12 major rec centers in The Villages from October 1 to December 10.
  • Trish discussed having a raffle for 2 race entries that TVRC has been given.  1 entry to the Mount Dora half marathon (December 19) and 1 entry to a race from the LifeSouth Race Weekend in Gainesville (February 19-20).  Let Trish know if you would like your name to be entered.  Winners will be selected on September 19 at Carol and Steve Wolf’s house as part of the upcoming Home Run.
  • Trish reviewed the upcoming election process for 2022 officers.  Election will be held at the November 11 TVRC meeting.  Positions up for election are Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President.  The current VPs (Trish and John) will be moving to the position of President.  The VP will serve for 1 year in 2022 and then will become President in 2023.  Current Secretary (Mary Lou) and Treasurer (Mark) will be up for re-election but others are encouraged to run as well.
  • Bob Jennings discussed a charity fundraiser that VAST is participating in that runners may also join.  Swim Across America is an organization that raises funds for local cancer patients in need of financial support.  Participants can register and either request sponsors or make donations to raise money.  Registration fee is $50, and every dollar after the $50 goes to the charity.  Participants get a tshirt and swim cap and will be invited to a celebration in November.  Registration information can be found at www.swimacrossamerica/villages
  • Joanne suggested that we meet some weekend for a run either from the Santos Trail or the Land Bridge, for a Sunday run outing.  More information to come!
  • Our next HOME RUN will be Sunday 9/19 from Carol and Steve Wolf’s house.  All the details will be coming soon!
  • Mary Lou reviewed our plans for Night Golf, to be held on Thursday 9/16 at Saddlebrook Executive Course.  A few important notes:
    • Everyone needs to have a golf cart, no walkers allowed.  No golf carts are available to rent, you must bring your own or borrow one from a friend!!
    • Arrive at Saddlebrook around 6-6:30 for pizza before golf.  Feel free to bring a snack to share if you’d like.  BYO beverage!
    • Important:  Everyone must provide their own glow balls.  They are available for purchase at either Glenview Country Club or Belle Glade Country Club.  They are also available on Amazon.
    • Golf will start at approximately 7:30 PM.   There are 9 teams, and we will be doing a shot gun start (each team drives to their assigned hole to start).  All tee shots will be from the Green tees, and format is Captain and Crew (everyone plays from the location of the best shot each time), with 1 team score per hole.
    • Come back to the pavilion with your score cards at the end of the round!  We have PRIZES!
