November Monthly Membership Meeting

11/11/2021 Meeting Minutes

  • 23 Members attended this month’s meeting, held at Colony Rec Center.  This was our first indoor club meeting since the pandemic began in 2020.
  • Trish opened the meeting with the elections of club officers for 2021.  Mark Rossini and MaryLou Marcotte were re-elected for Treasurer and Secretary.  John Campbell and Trish Chandler were elected as our new co-Presidents.  John Valasco was elected as the new club Vice President.  Lizann Atkin will remain on the TVRC board in the role of President Emeritus for 2021.
  • Our speaker this month was Kari Walker, from The Villages Health.  She gave an excellent talk about The Importance of Getting a Good Night’s Rest, for Runners.  She began with an overview of the reasons that sleep was so important to many of the body’s function, including our immunity.  She gave several ideas for improving our night’s sleep.  Some of the key takeaways were to try a 2 week sleep boot camp.  Follow a strict bed time and wake up time, establish a bedtime routine, eliminate naps, exercise, and don’t eat too close to bedtime.  Good luck to anyone with sleep issues!
  • Carol Wolf reminded the club that she will be collecting Pajamas and Books for local children through November.  The response has been great so far!
  • Our Holiday Party will be held on Thursday December 9, at Lizann and Scott Atkin’s home.  The meal and dessert will be catered by Toojays using club funds, drinks are BYOB please.  Party will be indoor/outdoor with plenty of room to spread out.  The event has been posted on Facebook and Lizann has requested that members RSVP to help get an accurate count for catering ordering.  Spouses and significant others are definitely welcome!
  • November / December / January Upcoming Events:
    • TVRC has created a team to attend the Groveland Turkey Trot 5K and 10K, to be held on Thanksgiving morning.  Race begins at 7:15 AM.  Rides will be available via car pools, more info coming as date gets closer.
    • The next Home Run will be held December 5 from John and Trish’s house, 1163 Old Dominion Rd.  Routes will be available for 4, 6, and 8 miles.
    • The Mount Dora Half Marathon and 5K weekend events December 18-19 will be well attended by TVRC.  28 Runners are currently registered for the Half, 5K, or both events.  Trish received another free entry from the race director, and the board chose to give that entry to Dianne Schultz for her leadership of our apparel orders.
