2/10/2022 Meeting Minutes
- 28 Members attended this month’s meeting, held indoors at the Colony Rec Center.
- Trish opened the meeting by reading a thank you letter that we received for our contributions to the Girl Scout pajama and book collection during the 2021 holiday season.
- Financials were not reviewed this month due to Mark’s absence. Trish did note that we currently have 99 names on our master list, with 54 paid members. The membership drive will continue through the month of February.
- John C demo’d the TVRC website. The website should be our primary place for communications, business, events, and calendar access. John encouraged members to visit the website frequently for updates, especially under the Blog tab.
- John also reviewed some work that he has been doing to create a Florida Race Log for the club’s use. The log lists all known races in Florida, with distances from The Villages. The log will track which races our members have signed up for, and will be a good planning tool for sharing rides.
- John reviewed some of the upcoming races:
- Tuesday 2/22/2022 – come out in the afternoon for this unique run! We will begin our run outside Toojays, meeting at 2:15 PM. The run will begin precisely at 2:22 PM. The club will wear TuTus (yes, even the men!) and we will stop our run at 2.22 miles. The club will continue our normal loop after all the runners reach the 2.22 miles. Then we will have some social time to celebrate with a 2-for-1 happy hour! John also said that the Daily Sun may be there to capture this event.
- February 26-27 – Gasparilla Distance Classic (15K, 5K, Half, 8K), Tampa
- Saturday 3/12/2022 – Irish Eyes are Mile’ling 5K in Ocala. TVRC team has been created and there is a discount code available to save $3 (code is TVRC22).
- Tuesday 3/15/2022 – aka the Ides of March – will be our sometimes annual Prediction Run. Join us for this fun run around the 6 mile loop. Everyone will predict how long the 6 miles will take them, and the winner will be the person closest to their prediction. No watches, GPS, phones, headphones, etc are allowed for this run!!
- Saturday 4/16/2022 will be a combined event for the Running of the Squares (Spanish Springs) and the Florida Sr Games 5K qualifier. Each event has their own registration and entry fees.
- Some additional planned races for 2022-2023 to consider for our team:
- St Petes Run Fest 11/11-13/2022, St Petersburg FL
- Celebration – January 2023, Celebration FL
- Disney Princess Weekend – 2/23-26/2023, Orlando FL
- Gate River 15K/5K – March 2023, Jacksonville FL
- Trish spoke about our upcoming speaker planned for our March 10 meeting. Deborah Waddell from The Villages Lifelong Learning Center will speak on the Power of Foods for Life Extension. Deborah teaches how the power of plant based foods can prolong our life and can prevent or reverse may age related diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Deb has recommended that we all watch the documentary The Game Changers on Netflix prior to next meeting!
- TVRC members will be able to order name tags with our TVRC emblem on them. Information will announced about how to contact the name tag guy, Al, and how to order. Price will be $5.50 cash or check.
- Dianne gave an update on Apparel.
- Gasparilla shirts will be in no later than 2/18.
- Ordering for apparel will change to once yearly, and will be held in February. Ordering will begin now and will run until 2/24.
- Cash or checks (made payable to cash) are the only methods of payment.
- Any new ideas for TVRC items may be considered for 2023 ordering.
- Lisa gave an update on Social activities:
- We had a successful night learning about Pickleball, and look forward to more opportunities to practice what we learned. Thanks again to Rob and Diane Schultz for the great pickleball overview and lessons!
- The club had a fun evening last Sunday at Ednas. We will be looking to try again when the weather is a bit nicer!
- A bike ride is being planned in Winter Garden, with Lunch to follow. More information to come.
- Other non-running activities include Sue Bonzey’s Bike N Barge trip, Home Runs, and Night Golf.
- Trish mentioned the urgent need for blood donations. There is a blood drive planned for February 21 at the Polo Grounds, but anyone can also make donations at One Blood any time.
- Road ID – please consider buying and wearing a Road ID when running. If there is a health emergency it will help locate your family much quicker.
