- 40 Members attended this meeting at Colony Cottage Rec Center, which was our first formal meeting of 2023.
- John Valasco welcomed all the members and reviewed the agenda for our meeting.
- John Campbell covered the results of the TVRC communications survery that was performed in December via email. The survey indicated that most members prefer Facebook posts and events to be posted for most of our normal communications. Any kind of emergency alerts or urgent messages (ie rain out of an event) should be communicated via a text message. John Valasco also reviewed the addition of the TVRC white board to improve communications after each of our regular runs.
- The board will be generating a list of current paid members along with their contact information (email, phone) so that we can use this to generate emails and text messages for appropriate communications.
- Mark Rossini reviewed our current Financial status. We currently have $519 going into 2023 prior to our 2023 membership drive.
- Reminder to pay your 2023 dues during January and complete a waiver form if you have not previously completed one. Mark Rossini will collect dues and Mary Lou Marcotte will collect waiver forms.
- Dianne Schultz talked about our January Apparel Sale that is happening now. Dianne is working with Custom Apparel to get samples of the products so that members may try on before ordering. Orders will be taken through January 19, although this may be extended if samples take longer to obtain. A reminder that non-members of TVRC must pay an additional $5 per item when ordering. Any person that has paid their 2023 dues ($20) will not need to pay this charge.
- Trish Chandler spoke about the 1/14 Running of the Squares at Lake Sumter. The TVRC tent will be in front of the Flying Biscuit beginning at 7:30. Team Pictures will be taken at 7:45. Race begins in front of TooJays at 8AM. Good luck to all our runners!
- Jeff Galloway (former 1972 American Olympian and author of several running books) will be speaking to our club on Monday February 27, Noon – 1PM at Colony Recreation Center. Seating is limited, so RSVP is required. Trish Chandler is collecting names of people interested in attending. Members who have paid their 2023 dues will be given preference to attend. Any remaining seats will be offered to non members.
- John Valasco spoke about the desire to extend our runs to locations in the southern end of The Villages. We will begin with our first ‘Southern Adventure Run’ on January 22. The club will meet at Rohan Recreation Center, 850 Kristine Way at 7 AM for our Sunday run. Routes of varying distances (3, 6, 10) will be communicated with all routes beginning by crossing the Chitty Chatty Bridge. Plenty of parking is available at Rohan Rec, and coffee for post-run is available at nearby Publix or the nearby gas station.
- John talked about the upcoming program to offer Short Runs into our club offerings. These runs will be sponsored by experienced members of TVRC and will encourage new members to join TVRC as beginner runners or runners returning from injury. Program will begin in February.
