TVRC Members Meeting – April 13, 2023

The April members meeting was held on April 13, 2023 at Colony Rec Center.  23 members attended.

John Valasco gave a quick overview of our current membership statistics.  We currently have 107 paid members!

The first topic discussed was our Holiday Party.  Typically we have used our dues to cover the expenses of a December Holiday Party.  With our non-resident membership growing, we would like to have a party that more members can attend.  It was decided and voted upon to hold the meeting in mid-January, with TVRC covering the cost to have non-residents attend.   Members will be asked to provide a dish-to-pass, and will be asked to bring their own beverage.

John had an open discussion regarding our TVRC account and asked members for ideas on how the money should be spent.  Several ideas were brought forward, including:

  • Support to a local charity or organization
  • Providing a running scholarship to one of the local schools
  • Sponsorship of a golf hole at a golf tournament for charity
  • Cover the cost of dues for younger members (perhaps under the age of 21)
  • Reserve some money for speaker dues and or thank you gifts
  • Provide bus transportation to a key race

In the end, we decided to collect written suggestions for using our money.  Ideas will be considered by the board and top ideas will be presented to the club for voting.

  • Please write down your ideas and submit to John Valasco or another board member, no later than the Sunday April 30 Home Run.

The next topic discussed was the need to have members come forward to fill 2 board positions and 1 additional role for 2024.  If you are interested in filling one of these positions, please discuss with a board member.

Vice President – The position of vice president will be open for election in the fall of 2023.  The vice president attends monthly board meetings and monthly membership meetings.   The VP is a position used to learn the operation of TVRC and will become the President after 1 year.

Specifically, the Vice President:

  • In the absence of the President, the Vice President shall preside and discharge all the duties and exercise all the powers of the President.
  • Manages the effort to provide succession planning for officer positions. Leads a nominating committee in finding capable and interested people to take on the defined responsibilities of the officer position.
  • Oversees the annual Board election process and presents the new members for approval at the December meeting of the Board.

Secretary – The position of secretary will be open for election in the fall of 2023.  The secretary attends monthly board meetings and monthly membership meetings.   The secretary is a 1 year position.

Specifically, the Secretary:

  • Provides notice of both regular and special meetings to all TVRC members four days before the meeting date. An agenda of the business to be considered should be included.
  • Determines whether attendees at a Board meeting constitute a quorum (not to be less than three members
  • Records and transcribes minutes of the meetings, carry on correspondence, issue notices of all meetings and preserve its records.
  • Acquires and maintains roster information for all members wishing to participate in TVRC. This includes signed waiver forms
  • Maintains custody of all official documents of the Board
  • Gives all books, paper and other property in her/his possession or control to the Secretary’s successor or the President.

In addition, we are looking to fill the position of Group Run Coordinator.  This person will work with TVRC members and the directors of key races (such as St Pete Run Fest, Gasparilla, Mount Dora, Running of the Squares, and Running with the Herd) to coordinate TVRC participation in the event.  Also helps arrange group hotel and dining options.

April Southern Adventure Run will be held on April 23rd from Sawgrass.

  • Start time will be 7AM
  • Routes and further details to come.

April Home Run – April 30 at Sue Bonzey’s house.

  • Address is 1159 Barker Way in the Village of Hemingway.
  • Start time 7AM

  • Stay for breakfast after the run.  Food, coffee and water will be provided.  Please let Sue know if you’d like to bring something to share.

Our speaker for meeting was Matt Mang from Fleet Feet.

  • Matt said that the store has been doing well and he thanked TVRC for our continued support to the store.
  • Fleet Feet will be sponsoring ‘The Big Run’ as part of Global Running Day in June.  The Big Run will be 5K route on Saturday June 10.  The run will be a free event and there will be more details to come.
