- The monthly membership meeting was held at Colony Cottage Rec Center. John Valasco opened the meeting with a welcome to all members.
- John V reviewed the financial report provided by Mark Rossini. We currently have 114 active members who have paid dues in 2023. Our primary expenses for the year include the Holiday Party (to be held in January 2024) and some memorial donations made for TVRC members or spouses who passed away in 2023.
- Upcoming events:
- Jingle Jog – was held immediately following the December meeting. Run began at 6PM at Burnsed Rec Center.
- Alumni Day – January 1. A New Years Day run has been a TVRC tradition since 2016. This year we are focusing on gathering with all members, especially Alumni members that may not still be running with us. We will plan to gather at the Lake Sumter Landing Pavilion at 8AM on Monday January 1. If you would like to run that day, plan to run earlier so that we can socialize and enjoy our friends! Also please plan to bring a snack to share if you’d like. John V asked all members to help reach out to former members of TVRC to let them know about the event and encourage them to attend!
- Our Holiday Party will be held January 11 at Lake Miona Rec Center. Entertainment will be provided by our members Mark and Mary Goetz! All members who have paid their 2023 dues are welcome, including our non-Villages Residents. Please RSVP by 12/31 or sooner for this event. The RSVP form is available on our facebook page or thevillagesrunningclub.com website, or a paper copy is available from Dianne at any of our runs.
- Sue Bonzey talked about some upcoming Social Events planned for 2024. More details to come for each of these events, but plan on saving these dates!!
- Pickleball Social will be held Tuesday 2/6 at Eisenhower Rec Center from 3-7 PM . This will include a potluck / BYOB gathering after pickleball.
- Kickball Social will be held Sunday 3/10 at Soaring Eagle Softball fields from 2-6 PM. This will include a potluck / BYOB gathering after kickball. Team captains are needed!!
- An end-of-the-season Pool Party will be held on Sunday 4/7 at SeaBreeze Rec Center from 3-7PM.
- Trish Chandler talked about the ‘We Finish Together’ organization (wefinishtogether.org) that she has been involved with. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to collecting donated medals and distributing them to individuals that could benefit from an act of kindness. If anyone from TVRC would like to donate some of their medals, Trish will collect medals and provide them to this organization. Please bring medals to Trish on January 1 (Alumni Day Gathering) or February 8 (TVRC February Meeting). In addition, if you are donating a medal you are asked to write a brief message of encouragement on the medal ribbon.
- 2024 Apparel Order – Dianne Schultz talked about our annual apparel order that will begin January 1. Many items will remain the same , with 2 new shirts coming out (a new winter scene shirt and a new design for a Patriotic shirt). Trish will be coordinating this. upcoming order.
- Guest Speaker – Craig Laughlin spoke to us about the AVIV Clinic and their 12 week program using Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to improve cognition and physical performance. TVRC members are invited to attend a VIP social event to learn about AVIV and steps that can be taken to help achieve peak athletic performance. The event will be held at AVIV on Thursday January 18 from 4-7 PM and will include a Tour and Networking social time.
