TVRC was founded in January of 2016 by Steve Wolf. Steve came from Milwaukee where he belonged to a large running club and knew an organized running club would be welcomed by residents of The Villages. The Villages administration was initially lukewarm to the idea though as two previous attempts to form running clubs had failed but now fully endorse the group’s efforts.

Since that time the club has grown slowly but steadily and continues to grow today. Many of the original runners are still active members today – enjoying and supporting running in The Villages.
Lake Sumter Landing was chosen as the starting point for group runs as it was the central location of The Villages in 2016. We continue to use Lake Sumter as there are a number of great running routes including hills and distance runs that allow runners to stay on runner friendly pathways.
From the beginning a routine of Tuesday loops, Thursday hills and Sunday long runs formed the basis of the group’s training. While this routine continues today there are also small groups that run other routes on these days – one of the great things about our club.
In addition to promoting running, the club also sponsors a variety of educational and social activities for the benefit of members. Guest speakers and running panels are often part of our membership meetings. Supporting charitable running events in the community is also popular with our membership, as is our annual Holiday party.
