Code of Conduct

Welcome to The Villages Running Club! We are a group of passionate runners, primarily aged 55 and above, who enjoy running, socializing, and staying active in The Villages community. We have established this Code of Conduct to ensure a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for everyone. You agree to abide by these guidelines by participating in any club activity.

Respect and Sportsmanship:

  • Treat all members, volunteers, and guests with respect and courtesy. This includes respecting differences in ability, pace, and experience.
  • Practice good sportsmanship. Congratulate fellow runners on their achievements, encourage those who are struggling, and lose and win with grace.
  • Use inclusive language and avoid making discriminatory or offensive remarks. This includes comments based on age, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or other personal characteristics.
  • Refrain from yelling, taunting, or bullying other members. Disagreements should be handled respectfully and privately.

Safety and Well-being:

  • Always prioritize your safety and the safety of others. This includes following traffic laws, staying aware of your surroundings, and running in well-lit areas during low-light hours.
  • Advise the run leader of any medical conditions or limitations you may have before participating in a group run.
  • Listen to and follow the instructions of run leaders and volunteers. They are there to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.
  • Be mindful of your pace and ability, and choose running groups that are appropriate for your fitness level. Don’t push yourself beyond your limits.
  • Carry identification and emergency contact information with you during runs.

Communication and Etiquette:

  • Arrive at events on time and be prepared. This includes wearing appropriate running attire and footwear.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with club leaders and fellow members.
  • Be mindful of your noise level at events and gatherings. Respect the peace and quiet of others.
  • Clean up after yourself at events and group runs. Dispose of trash properly and leave no trace.
  • Use social media responsibly. Avoid posting negative comments about other members or club activities.

Consequences of Violation:

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, up to and including suspension or expulsion from the club. The severity of the action will be determined by the Club Leadership Committee based on the nature of the violation.

We encourage all members to report any observed violations of this Code of Conduct to the Club Leadership Committee. You can do so anonymously if you prefer.

Remember, we are all part of the same team. Let’s work together to create a positive and enjoyable running experience for everyone!

Additional Notes:

  • This Code of Conduct may be amended from time to time at the discretion of the Club Board.
  • We encourage members to provide feedback and suggestions on the Code of Conduct.

We hope you have a happy and healthy running experience with The Villages Running Club!
